Artist Talk with Heretic Studio

On 26th May, East London Printmakers will be hosting a talk by the fantastic Heretic Studio.

Heretic is an experimental screen printing studio comprising of Luke Frost, Jon Rundall and Therese Vandling. Their wide ranging activities have most recently taken the form of an ongoing and evolving body of work called
Spectral Nation: an exploration of screen printing as a medium and process, looking at colour interactions and the journey an image makes, from digital manipulation into analogue, and the transformations and distortions this journey can bring about, uncovering hidden complexities within simple compositions.

Pop-Up Exhibition with Laurie Storey

We’re excited to announce, on Thursday 7th May, East London Printmakers will be hosting a pop-up exhibition of work by Laurie Storey.

If Ed Miliband eats a sandwich in the forest and no one is around to see it, does he still get lime pickle on his eyelid?

A one day exhibition investigating the relationship between British politics, the media and the cult of celebrity, which will take place on election day. This body of work constitutes the findings whilst participating in the Project Keyholder Residency at East London Printmakers in Spring 2015. Realised via traditional printmaking methods, this selection of work explores the appropriation and distortion of information via a variety of media outlets, focusing on the junction where considered documentation and fact is sacrificed for entertainment and titillation.

Laurie is an artist, printmaker living and working in London. He has spent the last two months completing a Project Keyholder Residency at ELP. Alongside producing his own work, Laurie runs Vulpes Vulpes; a project space in Bermondsey which hosts exhibitions, performances and workshops. You can read more about Laurie’s work and his time at ELP here.

Join us on Thursday 7th May from 6pm – 10pm to support emerging creative talent.

During his residency at ELP Oscar Eaton produced a series of zinc plate etchings focusing on the heroic age of exploration at the turn of the 20th century.

Oscar has been searching the Royal Geographic Society’s photographic archives and isolating imagery from the original footage of Scott and Shackleton’s South Pole expeditions to gain source material from which to work. He has also been collection imagery from Mallory and Irvine’s 1924 Everest expedition and is beginning to work with footage from the Apollo 11 moon landing.

On 24th March, Oscar will be discussing his work, research, process and his residency at ELP. It’s free so come along from 7.30pm!
